Mental Health Grant Opportunities

We are so excited to offer two grant opportunities mad possible by BlueCross BlueShield! Below you will find information, eligibility, and application details for these excellent opportunities focusing on mental health in New Mexico.


Mental Health First Aid Grant

Mental Health First Aid in an 8-hour course that teaches attendees how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives attendees the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. 

Personal care service (PCS) caregivers will greatly benefit from participating in a mental health first aid training to support their ability to respond mental health or substance use problems when they are providing direct care. Additionally, the training gives attendees tools that supports their personal mental health. 

Agencies will receive a $300 stipend for each PCS caregiver employee who completes the mental health first aid course, with a minimum of 10 attendees and maximum of 50 participating in order to be eligible for a stipend. This grant is first come, first serve.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Member of the New Mexico Association for Home & Hospice Care
  • Personal care service agency contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico
  • Personal care service agency must serve one of New Mexico's 26 non-metro counties
  • Employees that receive an incentive that is funded by this program may not include the business-owner

 Mental Health Innovation Grant

Every day personal care service caregivers touch the lives of over 32,000 New Mexicans. What concepts does your organization have to promote the mental health and well-being of your members or the caregivers that serve them? With funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield, the association has mental health innovation grant dollars to support proposals developed by PCS agencies to support PCS caregiver and/or client mental well-being. 

Grant dollars may not be used to pay for services that are covered by New Mexico Medicaid and otherwise billable by the agency. Agencies may apply for an innovation grant for up $25,000 to launch or build a program that supports PCS caregiver and/or client well-being. 

Applications must include a summary of the program, program milestones and metrics, and an estimated accounting of how grant dollars will be spent. Recipients of the grant agree that they may be required to submit documentation demonstrating how grant dollars were spent. 

ELIGIBILITY:
  • Member of the New Mexico Association for Home & Hospice Care
  • Personal care service agency contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield New Mexico
  • Personal care service agency must serve one of New Mexico's 26 non-metro counties
  • Employees that receive an incentive that is funded by this program may not include the business-owner
  • Dollars from this grant must be spent by March 31st 2024

APPLICATION:

  • Anticipate 2-5 grants valued at $15,000-$25,000 to be distributed
  • Agencies must submit a plan for how they will use the monies & how their plan is expected to improve PCS caregiver and/or client well-being
  • Applications are due May 15, 2024.
  • Grants will undergo a peer review process
